CNMI: Golden Goose, Yatay, and Moncler among the award winners for sustainability

An evening at La Scala with a special host, actress Freida Pinto, also known for her activism in environmental and social causes. On Sunday evening, just hours after the conclusion of Milan Fashion Week, the Camera della Moda, in collaboration with the UN’s Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI) and with the support of the City of Milan, organized the Sustainable Fashion Awards 2024 ceremony.

The awards celebrate individuals and entities distinguished by their vision, innovation, commitment to craftsmanship, recognition of diversity, circular economy, human rights, environmental justice, and biodiversity. As a symbol of the event, Michelangelo Pistoletto’s “Third Paradise,” which since 2012 has represented Camera della Moda’s commitment to environmental and social issues, was featured. This initiative was further strengthened by the drafting of the Manifesto for Sustainability in Italian Fashion, spearheaded by Anna Zegna and Carlo Capasa, who was and remains the president of Camera della Moda.

Ten awards were determined by an independent jury chaired by Simone Cipriani, founder of the Ethical Fashion Initiative and president of the UN Alliance for Sustainable Fashion. Among them, the Visionary Award – previously awarded to Giorgio Armani and Edward Enninful in the last two editions – was presented to Brunello Cucinelli in recognition of his “fundamental contribution in renewing the culture of beauty, creating a new virtuous business model, enhancing and preserving the value of Italian craftsmanship and manual skills, and combining technology, humanism, and artificial intelligence.”

Renzo Rosso accepted the Award for Circular Economy, curated by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and awarded to Diesel; Remo Ruffini of Moncler received a recognition for education, particularly for the Mate project (Moncler Academy for Technical Excellence); Gucci was awarded for its numerous initiatives dedicated to inclusivity, gender equality, and combating violence, especially against women; Brioni was recognized for its commitment to preserving artisanal know-how. Golden Goose received the Groundbreaking Award for the project launched at the beginning of 2023, Yatay Lab, an initiative in collaboration with the Coronet Group. The lab serves as a hub for research and development of sustainable and circular materials, marking a significant step toward a more environmentally friendly fashion industry.

The Bicester Collection Award for Emerging Designers, recognizing the work of individuals creating innovative solutions, was awarded to ESCVDO, a sustainable luxury brand that merges contemporary design with the rich cultural heritage of Peru.
